Showering every morning might make you feel squeaky clean and ready to face the day ahead, but research suggests you could actually be harming your body by showering too often.
The study points out that daily showers are a societal norm, as we associate being clean with being attractive (or, not stinky) — but frequent scrubbing isn’t actually necessary for a healthy body.
Strictly for hygiene reasons, one or two showers a week could be enough for your body depending on your lifestyle.
Too much showering means you could be over-using antibacterial products and stripping the natural oils from your skin.
If you have a particularly dirty job you need to remove grime from your body, but even if you work out a lot there’s really no need to jump in the shower every single day.
Dr. C Brandon Mitchell says, “Your body is a naturally well-oiled machine. A daily shower isn’t necessary.”
Apparently, too much scrubbing can dry out your skin, cause cracks (that nasty infections and germs can get inside) and damage your skin’s self-cleaning mechanism.
But no one wants to be THAT stinky person, so what can you do?
Dr. Mitchell recommends lathering just your pits, your butt and your groin as areas that produce “strong-smelling secretions”, and leaving the rest of you to keep clean the natural way.
