Aerosmith ‘Heartbroken’ as They Announce Retirement from Touring Due to Steven Tyler’s ‘Injury’

Aerosmith have officially concluded their time on the road, informing fans that they have chosen to step away from touring.

The band conveyed their feelings of being ‘heartbroken’ in a statement, revealing that it became clear that frontman Steven Tyler couldn’t fully recover from his vocal injury.

The statement detailed: “It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith.

“Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history.

“It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives.”

The band expressed that their goal has always been to ‘blow [fans’ minds] when performing,’ which led to their tough choice to stop touring.

“As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury,” the statement continued.

“We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage.”

The band also took the time to thank their team and the ‘best fans on planet Earth,’ encouraging them to ‘play our music loud, now and always’.

They noted that ticket holders would receive refunds.

In 2023, Tyler incurred a vocal cord injury after fracturing his larynx during a performance.

The band, which includes Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford, and Joe Perry, had been scheduled to perform 40 dates across the US starting in September.

Back in February, Tyler’s daughter Mia Tyler discussed his injury with PEOPLE.

She shared: “He’s not supposed to be talking sometimes, so I have to literally yell at him and be like, ‘You can’t be on the phone with me right now, let’s just text’.”

She humorously added: “You can’t shut him up – he can’t close that mouth.”

Fans have expressed their sadness about the news, with one commenting: “This is heartbreaking. Thanks for all the music and all the experiences. Aerosmith forever.”

Another fan shared: “Hey guys, thanks for decades and decades of happiness, great moments and excellent music, you are unique and thank you for being crazy and Dream on.”
