When Jeanean Thomas took her 6-year-old daughter Peyton to the skate park, both were nervous of the group of young boys swearing and smoking there.
But one boy approached Peyton and, to Jeanean’s amazement, started teaching her young daughter how to skate — despite his friends sniggering behind him.
Jeanean wrote this open letter to the boy thanking him: “I want you to know that I am proud that you are part of my community, and I want to thank you for being kind to my daughter, even though your friends made fun of you for it.”
Unsurprisingly, the Canadian mother’s letter quickly spread online.
“She left the skate park with a sense of pride and with the confidence that she can do anything, because of you.”
Jeanean told CBC News that the incident opened her eyes to her own prejudice that all teenage boys are bad. She said: “Think about that group of teens on the corner that (parents) might think are troublesome and just remember that they’re probably good kids.”
And as for Peyton, she now goes out skating all the time.
