Alabama Barker says she plans to start taking the GLP-1 medication Ozempic after facing a wave of abuse from people commenting on her body online.
The 20-year-old, who is the daughter of Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, shared the statement in a TikTok video posted on July 30 that had already passed 1 million likes at the time of writing.
“This is not very role model of me, but I’m going to get on the highest dose of Ozempic,” she began.
She then directed a furious response at critics who have mocked her appearance.
“I’m going to become so skinny you’re going to tell me I need a burger, because the way people body shame me is f*****g. I f*****g hate you guys and I’m going to get so skinny f***k you.
“No a*s no t**s, 2027 bye.”
A number of her followers immediately backed her in the comments.
“if i was rich this is exactly how i would act nbs.”
Another person agreed with her reaction.
“no cause this is such a fair response. like yall r so WEIRD.”
A third follower also condemned the criticism.
“They’re gonna body shame you when you’re skinny too,they’re sick,” another follower penned.
One more supporter wrote:
“Ur sooo teaaa theyre just not a girls girl and just hatin they don’t look like you.”
Ozempic is primarily prescribed for people with type 2 diabetes as a way to help manage blood sugar, though it has also become widely known for its use in weight loss. The medication carries potential side effects including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. More serious but rare side effects can include pancreatitis, kidney problems, severe allergic reactions, and delayed stomach emptying. Studies have also linked Ozempic to a rare vision loss condition called non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), with one study finding the risk was over four times higher in patients with diabetes and those who were overweight. A boxed warning from the FDA indicates a potential risk of thyroid C-cell tumors, though this risk has not been confirmed in people.
According to the most recent Gallup data from 2026, approximately 11 percent of adults in the US currently use GLP-1 drugs with the goal of losing weight, up significantly from 3 percent in 2024. Additionally, 15 percent of Americans report having used the medicine for weight loss at some point. This increased usage has coincided with a meaningful decline in the U.S. adult obesity rate, which has dropped to 36.4 percent thus far in 2026 from a record high of 39.9 percent in 2022.
This is not the first time Barker has spoken publicly about weight-loss medication. In March 2026, she announced she was resuming her “GLP-1 journey,” writing on Instagram that she was “being really intentional” about her usage this time around. She explained that for her, it was about “feeling better, having more energy, and actually trusting the process instead of rushing it.” Back in 2024, she said she had used it when she was 18.
“I have this thing where I photograph so ugly and people are like, ‘Oh my god, you’re so fat and you’re so ugly,'” she said during a get ready with me on TikTok.
That same year, she also responded to allegations that she had undergone cosmetic procedures on her body, denying the claims.
“I’ve had no cosmetic work done to my body!!” she wrote over a mirror selfie showcasing her whole body on Instagram.
She later added:
“Not saying I never would, but just not in this moment have I had anything done.”
Barker has frequently responded to negative attention on social media, especially when comments are aimed at either her or her family. In 2023, she disclosed that she struggles with a thyroid problem and an autoimmune disease, which she explained contribute to weight fluctuations. “I also have a thyroid problem and an autoimmune disease, so that’s one of the main reasons why I have weight gain,” she said at the time, asking critics to keep their opinions to themselves.
Late last year, she also defended her father after people criticized one of his Christmas gifts to her, with some describing it as overly intimate.
While showing what she received for her birthday and Christmas, Barker said Travis Barker had bought her several items from lingerie brand Agent Provocateur.
“Kourtney picked out most of it and then the girl knows me there, so she like gave recommendations of what I liked,” Barker, 20, said in the video.
After backlash over the gift, she responded directly online.
“Hold on, hold on, I have to go on a f***ing rant! Why the f***, why the f***, are you guys trying to make this lingerie thing a thing – it’s never going to be a thing Gretchen!” of course, referencing the iconic Mean Girls.
