Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski Split After 9 Years of Marriage

Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski have confirmed their separation after nine years of marriage.

The couple, who wed in 2017, issued a joint statement on Tuesday acknowledging the split. Seyfried, 39, and Sadoski, 48, have two children together: daughter Nina, 8, and son Thomas, 4.

“We have been separated for a while, and it’s proven to be the right move for us and our family unit,” they shared in the statement. “We’ve got each other forever — and it’s GOOD.”

The “Mamma Mia!” star and “Newsroom” actor first met while performing in the off-Broadway play “The Way We Get By” in 2015. Their connection deepened when they reunited on the set of the indie film “The Last Word” the following year. Sadoski was still married to his first wife, Kimberly Hope, when he met Seyfried, though he has maintained he never strayed during that marriage.

Seyfried addressed their meeting circumstances in a 2018 interview with Porter magazine. “He never disrespected his wife,” she said of Sadoski during that period. The actor finalized his divorce from Hope in 2015 after eight years of marriage before pursuing a relationship with Seyfried.

The pair kept their early romance largely private, with Seyfried rarely discussing details in public. They confirmed their engagement in September 2016 and surprised fans with a secret wedding ceremony in March 2017. The intimate nuptials took place with just a few guests present, eschewing the typical Hollywood fanfare.

Throughout their marriage, both actors continued building their respective careers. Seyfried earned critical acclaim for her role as Elizabeth Holmes in “The Dropout,” winning an Emmy and a Golden Globe in 2022. Sadoski appeared in series including “Life in Pieces” and “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” while also maintaining his stage work.

The couple’s statement emphasized their ongoing commitment to co-parenting despite the romantic separation. Their phrasing suggested an amicable arrangement focused on family stability rather than discord. The capitalized “GOOD” in their message appeared to underscore their positive outlook on the transition.

Seyfried has spoken previously about the challenges of balancing her demanding career with family life. In multiple interviews during their marriage, she described Sadoski as a supportive partner who understood the pressures of the entertainment industry. Both actors have projects in various stages of development, with Seyfried attached to several upcoming film and television productions.

The timing of their announcement came without prior public speculation about trouble in the marriage. The couple had maintained a relatively low profile in recent months, though neither had appeared on the other’s social media with notable frequency. Their last red carpet appearance together occurred at the 2023 Golden Globes, where Seyfried was nominated for “The Dropout.”

The separation marks the end of one of Hollywood’s more understated partnerships, one that began in the theater world before transitioning to marriage and parenthood. Both actors have continued working steadily throughout their relationship, often filming in different locations while raising their children.

Seyfried’s upcoming projects include the Netflix film “The Housemaid” and the Apple TV+ series “Long Bright River,” both scheduled for release in 2025.
