Angel Reese’s recent remarks about her income have stirred debate among social media users.
Although most individuals and especially celebrities typically avoid disclosing their earnings, Reese made an exception during an Instagram Live session.
The 6-foot-3 basketball player is with the Chicago Sky, a team currently positioned at 10th place in the WNBA standings.
During the live stream, Reese jokingly stated that she’s “living beyond [her] means,” noting that her salary isn’t sufficient to cover her rent.
“I just hope y’all know, the WNBA doesn’t pay my bills at all,” she said.
“I don’t even think that pays one of my bills. Literally,” she added.
The 22-year-old went on to calculate that her annual salary is $74,000, while her monthly rent is a staggering $8,000.
“I’m living beyond my means,” Reese remarked, laughing at her financial situation.
Clad in what appeared to be an outfit for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show afterparty in New York City on Tuesday night (October 15), it’s likely that the video was recorded either before or after the event.
Reese’s open acknowledgment has sparked mixed reactions. Some believe she deserves a higher salary, while others suggest she should relocate to a more affordable area.
A Twitter user remarked: “Why rent something you can’t afford.”
Another commented: “Imagine earning $74K a year and knowingly signing an $8K a month lease. This one’s on her.”
“I’ll never understand people who live outside theirs means then complain about it,” said a different user.
However, others argued fervently that WNBA players like Reese deserve higher pay.
