Anna Delvey posts bizarre video with ankle monitor and gives surprising explanation

Anna Delvey has left social media users puzzled after uploading a strange yet laid-back video in which she’s clearly wearing an ankle monitor.

If the name sounds familiar, it may be because of Netflix’s 2022 hit Inventing Anna.

The limited series followed the real-life story of Anna Delvey — also known as Anna Sorokin — who posed as a wealthy heiress in New York while swindling banks and acquaintances out of large sums of money.

Her deception eventually caught up with her. The 35-year-old was convicted on several theft-related charges in 2019. After serving four years, she was released in February 2021. Not long after, she was taken into custody by ICE for overstaying her visa, before later being released from immigration detention to house arrest in 2022.

Delvey has continued to court attention since then, including an appearance on Dancing with the Stars in 2023 — where viewers again noticed the ankle tag.

Now, she’s posted on X (formerly Twitter) with a fashion-related “hack” involving the monitor — an unusual problem to demonstrate publicly.

In the video, Delvey is seen carefully pulling and threading her tights around the device. Alongside it, she wrote: “Don’t ever ask me how I get tights under the ankle monitor again.”

The post quickly drew confused reactions. One person commented: “I won’t. More curious as to why you have an ankle bracelet actually,” and Delvey replied: “Immagration.”

Another asked: “Why were you wearing an ankle monitor to begin with?” to which she responded: “Why not.”

For anyone still wondering, the reason traces back to her immigration situation.

After her prison release, Delvey — a Russian-born German citizen — was detained by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency over allegations she had overstayed her visa.

She was released in October 2022 and placed under house arrest, which is why she continues to wear an ankle monitor.

Immigration attorney John Sandweg told NBC News at the time that ‘an immigration judge recognized that continued incarceration was no longer necessary for Anna.’

“This ruling does not mean that Anna will get a free pass,” Sandweg continued. “She will continue to face deportation proceedings and her release will be closely monitored by ICE and the State of New York,” he added.

Delvey is still contesting her deportation case. Under her terms, she has been able to travel within 70 miles of her home and ‘anywhere in the five boroughs of New York City,’ according to her spokesperson Juda Engelmayer in a statement to the Associated Press at the time.
