Local Artists Troll City Council With Funny Bench Plaques

Park and street benches in the city of Chester in England were recently the target of pranksters who attached brass plaques with funny (albeit offensive) messages, mimicking dedication plaques.

According to the Metro, the pieces were installed by anonymous artists to protest Chester council’s plan to pass a Public Space Protection Order. Supporters believe it would help curb antisocial behavior in public spaces, while opponents believe it would be used to unfairly target the homeless and vulnerable.

The Council has removed the plaques, saying people could be “offended” by them. It’s now looking for those responsible.

Maria Byrne, head of place operations for Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “Although they may appear humorous, some people may find them offensive. It has cost the Council taxpayer money for officers to locate and remove them.”
