Bob Penny, ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ and ‘Mississippi Burning’ Actor, Dead at 87

Bob Penny, a beloved Hollywood actor and former University of Alabama at Birmingham English professor, passed away on Christmas Day in Huntsville, Alabama. He was 87.

Before his 30-year career in film, Penny was a celebrated educator, earning awards for his work in the classroom and his own acclaimed poetry. After 32 years of teaching, he left academia in 1990 in pursuit of his true passion.

Penny appeared in small parts in some classic films, becoming a beloved figure in the entertainment industry.

Actor, Glenn Penny, best known for his roles in Sweet Home Alabama, Forrest Gump, Mississippi Burning, My Cousin Vinny and The Legend of Bagger Vance, among other films and TV shows, has passed away.

He had more than 30 acting credits to his name, with his most recent being a recurring role on the series Still the King in 2016. Penny is survived by his brother, sister, six nieces and a nephew.

His other credits include Higher Education, Drop Dead Diva and the TV adaptation of In the Heat of the Night.
