Abigail had been used as bait in a dog-fighting ring and suffered horrific injuries, including deep puncture wounds on her head, lacerations on her back and face, and the loss of an ear.
After numerous surgeries, vets were able to save this poor pup, whose case they described as “the worst they’d ever seen”, but it was a long recovery process and Abigail was left with many scars.
While Abigail recovered, Victoria needed something to cover her injuries and keep her cozy, so decided to knit her an adorable little headband with the help of some volunteers.
And as Abigail’s heartbreaking story spread online, more and more people sent hats and goodies to help this pup get better.
“She gets gifts weekly,” says Victoria, “Organic treats, toys, bonnets. People all over the world are following her journey. So far she has received over 50 headdresses, though the numbers continue to grow.”
To manage the donations, Victoria started Bonnets for Abigail through which people could send in gifts, keep up with Abigail’s stylish headwear collection, and of course keep up with her recovery.
“We get many people saying they look forward to her posts every day and that Abigail has restored their faith in humanity,” said Victoria.
