This Box Shows You Tomorrow’s Weather Forecast With Real Rain, Clouds, And Lightning

Software engineer-cum-inventor Ken Kawamoto has just singlehandedly revolutionized the way we see weather with the very nifty Tempescope.

It may look like an unassuming box, but according to its official website, the Tempescope “is an ambient physical display that visualizes various weather conditions like rain, clouds, and lightning.”

In a nutshell, it’s a tabletop device that provides an ambient display of the next day’s weather forecast in the prettiest way possible.

Case in point.

The Tempescope is able to achieve all this by simply downloading weather forecasts from the internet using a wireless remote synced to a computer, and subsequently replicating whatever conditions are forthcoming (except snow).

Amazingly enough, Kawamoto has made the schematics and source codes for the device available to those who want to build their own Tempescope as a free open-source project. A consumer version will also be available via Kickstarter later this year.

Here’s the Tempescope in action.

It’s definitely way sexier than the weatherman/woman. Maybe.
