BREAKING: President Trump & First Lady Melania Trump Test Positive for Coronavirus

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump tested positive for coronavirus, the President announced early Friday morning on Twitter.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” Trump tweeted shortly before 1 am Friday.

First Lady Melania Trump, for her part, tweeted: “As too many Americans have done this year, @POTUS & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19. We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe & we will all get through this together.”

The announcement came from the President after Hope Hicks, one of his closest advisers, tested positive for the virus on Thursday.

Earlier, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said that the president is tested “multiple times a day.”  Staff in the executive office of the president are also subject to randomized mandatory tests.

The President, who is 74 years old, has said that he plans to quarantine. Friday’s scheduled rally in Orlando, Florida has already been canceled.

In an MSNBC interview, Dr. Vin Gupta of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington said, “This was avoidable. This did not have to happen if they were practicing the proper procedures, and not going to these rallies and having these chaotic events where of course airborne exposure was going to happen, even if it was at an outdoor setting.”

The mid-term presidential election is 32 days away.
