When Gerdi McKenna was diagnosed with cancer, her friends decided to put together a photo-shoot. It was a fun idea, but it didn’t end there. They wanted to do something to show that they cared about her, and that they were all on the same team.
The friends decided they would all go to a salon before the shoot.
Then they would surprise Gerdi by shaving their heads before the shoot so she wouldn’t be the only one without hair due to her chemo treatments.
Her friends had some amazing comments about the experience: “My heart is full and I am doing it for my sister. She is one amazing person, it’s the least I could do”.
“If I only think what Gerdi is going through than this is nothing”.
“I am very nervous, but I know it is the right thing to do. I am giving up my pride for a friend who is going through much much more.”
Gerdi was so surprised when she saw what her friends had done.
She was moved to tears from seeing all the generosity and solidarity of those so close to her.
This is what true friendship looks like.
Here they are all together. Ready to take on whatever may come, as one powerful group.
“Hair is just a small part of you, and your biggest gift is that you are healthy,” one friend realized after the photo shoot. With friends like these, you could get through anything. We wish Gerdi a full recovery.
I’ve watched the video a few times, and tears have flowed every time. The love, support and comfort Gerdi’s friends and family are offering to her during this difficult time in her life is beyond words.
