Now here’s something you definitely don’t see every day: a raccoon riding an alligator, surfboard-style!
Richard Jones and his family were out for a nice hike along Florida’s Oaklawaha River when his son disturbed a raccoon. Evidently startled, the animal quickly stumbled towards the water and hopped on a nearby alligator, possibly mistaking it for a log. Thanks to Richard’s lightning-quick shutter finger, the raccoon’s amazing feat was captured for posterity. And thanks to the raccoon’s excellent reflexes, it was able to quickly scurry back into safety.
“I snapped a lucky picture right when the gator slipped into the water and before the raccoon jumped off and scurried away. Without the context you’d think the raccoon was hitching a ride across the river. Pretty amazing. Definitely the photo of a lifetime,” he said.
We’re inclined to agree. However, this isn’t the first time a raccoon was photographed in such an amazing feat of daring.
It makes us think that these raccoons may be up to something.
