Chris Pratt certainly didn’t pull any punches when he got the opportunity to playfully insult Jennifer Lawrence, particularly targeting their intimate scene together. When co-stars spend a significant amount of time together on set, it’s common to see them share jokes and lighthearted teasing during public appearances. However, it’s not every day that celebrities are encouraged to openly roast each other, but that’s exactly what happened when Pratt and Lawrence participated in BBC Radio 1’s “Playground Insults” segment.
The premise of the segment is straightforward: celebrities exchange their best, most childish insults. Pratt and Lawrence fully embraced this chance to rib each other. Initially, the jibes were mild, with Lawrence commenting on Pratt’s “false strength” and humorously suggesting his toddler had taught him everything he knows. Pratt retorted with zingers like, “It’s such a shame to meet someone you thought you’d like,” and poking fun at Lawrence’s involvement in ‘the stupidest Marvel movie’.
The exchange escalated when the topic of their sex scene in the movie Passengers came up. Lawrence revealed she had to take two Pepto-Bismol before filming commenced, but Pratt escalated the banter dramatically with his response: “During our sex scene, I felt your d*ck rubbing into my leg,” he quipped.
This remark sent Lawrence into fits of laughter, ultimately causing her to concede the match by offering her hand to Pratt as a sign of defeat.
While their on-screen chemistry in Passengers allowed for such jokes, Lawrence has shared that filming the scene felt quite awkward for her. During a roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, she described it as “really bizarre” and “really weird,” especially since it was her first time filming a sex scene.
She elaborated on the discomfort of kissing a married man for the role, expressing how guilt was a challenging emotion to shake off, even in a professional setting: “It was going to be my first time kissing a married man, and guilt is the worst feeling in your stomach,” Lawrence explained. “And I knew it was my job, but I couldn’t tell my stomach that. You want to do it real, you want everything to be real, but then… That was the most vulnerable I’ve ever been.”
Passengers remains available for purchase or streaming on various platforms, letting audiences see the chemistry and comedic timing between the two stars for themselves.
