Chuck Schumer had an uncomfortable moment while addressing Donald Trump’s role in the Iran conflict, after an apparent fart drew attention in the middle of his remarks.
The awkward clip surfaced as the Senate was debating the annual National Defense Authorization Act, with Democrats moving to block the measure in protest over the war in Iran and what they described as the Trump administration’s failure to consult Congress. Schumer, the Senate Democratic Leader, used his floor speech to argue that the NDAA should not be treated as a blank check for the White House.
These mishaps have a habit of happening at the worst possible time. Whether someone is in a quiet room, making an important argument, or standing before a chamber full of lawmakers, the timing never seems ideal.
The Senate Minority Leader appeared to be caught off guard while criticizing the president’s recent actions linked to the situation in Iran.
“Now on Iran and the NDAA,” he announced, before seemingly letting out the fart.
He then continued by attacking the administration’s defense of the conflict and comparing it to Trump’s comments about Vietnam.
“When all the Trump administration can say about his disastrous war with Iran is that Vietnam was worse, a point Trump made yesterday, he reveals the scale of his failure,” the politician noted.
Schumer went on to expand on that point, arguing that invoking Vietnam only highlighted how serious the comparison was.
“This is what Donald Trump said. The only thing he can say is Vietnam was worse. Oh my God! A war that killed close to 50,000 Americans, a war that lasted almost a decade, a war that ripped America apart.”
The wording did not go unnoticed online, especially given the moment that had just happened.

Video of the exchange quickly spread across social media, where plenty of users had their own take on the awkward interruption. The clip was also picked up by conservative commentators and accounts that highlighted the sound as Schumer pressed ahead with his remarks on Iran.
“He always talked out of his ass,” one joked.
“He definitely laughed a little, he knew ripped ass.”
“Why are farts always funny?” a third questioned.
Not everyone thought it was worth making fun of, though, and some people were quick to dismiss the reaction.
“What’s the big deal?”

Schumer, 75, was born in Brooklyn in 1950 and has been a member of the US Senate since 1999. Before that, he served in both the US House of Representatives and the New York State Assembly.
He first entered the Senate in 1998 and later became the chamber’s top Democratic leader. In the current Congress, he remains one of the most prominent voices in the party as Democrats continue to challenge Trump’s handling of the Iran conflict.
Over the course of his political career, he has held several senior roles in the Senate, including Senate Majority Leader and Senate Democratic Leader, helping shape Democratic policy and legislative priorities.
Of course, he is far from the first public figure to have this kind of moment while on air.
Back in 2019, former California representative Eric Swalwell was widely mocked after appearing to fart during a live MSNBC interview on ‘Hardball with Chris Matthews’.
“Chris, so far, the evidence is uncontradicted that the president used taxpayer dollars to help him cheat,” he said before pausing briefly and letting rip, “- an election.”
