Doctors Who Cruelly Mocked Sedated Patient During Medical Procedure Forced To Pay $500,000 In Damages

When a patient known only as “DB” went to Dr Soloman Shah’s surgery center in Virginia to undergo a colonoscopy, he had no idea that he would end up as the punchline to a series of cruel jokes as he lay sedated on the table.

After using his phone to record his doctor’s instructions for post-procedure care, he found out that he accidentally recorded the entire procedure — and inadvertently taped his doctors mocking and abusing him.

Dr Tiffany Ingham, the anesthesiologist, can be heard calling patient DB a “retard” and mocking his squeamishness at having a needle placed in his arm:

Meanwhile, Dr Shah discussed his plan to lie to the patient in order to avoid talking to him after the procedure:

In this longer excerpt, Dr Shah and Dr Ingham exchange methods of avoiding the patient after the procedure. Dr Ingham discusses wanting to “punch” the patient “in the face” in order to “man him up.”

They also talked about putting a fake diagnosis of hemorrhoids on the patient’s medical records, and joked that he had “tuberculosis in the penis”.

Patient DB, who was embarrassed and traumatized by the unintentional recording, was awarded $500,000 by a Virginia jury, according to the Washington Post.
