A Porsche Taycan owner from Nottingham, UK, has openly expressed his dissatisfaction with his recent purchase.
Lee Alexander Davey, known as The MacMaster on YouTube, shared his frustrating experience with his audience of 218,000 subscribers. He claims his electric vehicle has been recalled to the Porsche garage ten times, with each visit incurring significant costs.
The electric car cost Lee over $100,000, but it’s the mounting maintenance expenses that have been particularly burdensome, from charging ports to unique tires and service fees.
Problems began when Lee had difficulty locating the specific charging port for the car, necessitating the download of a new app to manage charging.
The MacMaster attempted to return the vehicle to the dealership, only to be taken aback when they reportedly deemed it ‘worthless’ due to its depreciation.
Sharing his frustration, Lee stated: “I found out [these cars] are basically a disposable vehicle, like your mobile or anything else that has batteries in.”
Lee mentioned the necessity for costly specialized tires to support the vehicle’s heavy battery. When Porsche replaced the car’s faulty battery, the new one, while less prone to catching fire, had reduced charging capacity, doubling the charging time.
Even with minimal mechanical parts, a simple speaker service can cost owners $600.
Lee is not alone in his dissatisfaction. SupercarBlondie noted an increase in Taycans being returned to dealerships and sold as second-hand at lower prices.
According to CarAndDriver.com, the 2025 Porsche Taycan competes with the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air, offering improved battery performance for longer drives. However, it still falls short in range compared to its competitors and has been criticized for its ‘wonky brake-pedal feel’ and high prices.
Lee advised prospective car buyers: “Don’t fall for their sales spiel. Just say no, firmly, and give them one more chance, say ‘if you mention electric cars again I’ll put the phone down and you’ll lose my sale.’
“Don’t listen to the motor dealers, they’re going to try and scam you into getting an electric car.”
Kevin Giek, head of the Taycan model line, commented on the improvements Porsche made: “We ushered in the new era of e-mobility with the Taycan at the end of 2019. It immediately proved to be a game changer and innovative pioneer in the e-vehicle segment.
“We are now continuing this success story with the extensively updated Taycan. The model line has reached new heights in terms of performance, with exceptional driving dynamics and driving pleasure. At the same time, we were able to significantly improve efficiency, range, day-to-day usability and comfort.”
