Di-Quan Schafar Hunt, 32, was arrested Thursday after videos on social media appeared to show him assaulting or harassing several people.
Police were called Thursday to an area off East 4th Street in Uptown Charlotte, where officers were shown a social media account containing multiple videos they were already investigating. One video showed an alleged assault reported July 30, and appeared to show Hunt punch a woman on a sidewalk off East Boulevard before running away.
The person suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
In the video, Hunt can be heard saying to the woman passing by, “Don’t wave to me.” He then appeared to hit the woman, standing over her while screaming, “You still talking?”
Hunt’s sister spoke to reporters about her family’s nightmare.
Hunt’s sister, who asked to remain anonymous, described her brother as “empty, he’s broken, he’s stalled.”
“He completely just flipped, and that turned into violence. And we had to call the cops then,” she said.
According to his sister, Hunt has a history of violence involving family members.
“‘Did he hit you?’ Yes, things would get physical between him and me or even my mom and him,” she said.
Hunt’s sister said his diagnoses are paranoid schizophrenia, PTSD, and Bi-Polar Disorder.
She added that Hunt is currently in denial about his condition.
The family has spent years trying to secure help for Hunt.
His sister said they have contacted various officials, including his therapist, probation officer, attorneys and judges.
“Asking, please help us. How can we get my brother in an institution? How can we get him medicated? And it leads us back to the same all the time he’s released,” she said.
Family members reported an assault and video evidence to police last Monday. They contacted officers again this past Thursday to provide an idea of where Hunt might be located.
Despite their cooperation with authorities, the sister said the public has targeted the family. “Our safety has been threatened, my children have been threatened, people have come to my home, people have sent things to my home,” she said.
According to arrest records, Hunt has been arrested at least nine times from October 2023 to December 2025.
Hunt has been charged with multiple crimes including assault with a deadly weapon, communicating threats, assault on a female and violating domestic violence orders.
In the viral moment that led to Hunt’s arrest,
videos posted to an Instagram page appearing to belong to Hunt showed a woman walking with a balloon in her hand before she was punched and fell to the sidewalk. While police blurred her face in the footage, she appeared to have been knocked unconscious. Investigators said she suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Additional videos found on the social media page depicted the recent attack along with other incidents, including footage of women being chased.
“Ahhhh feels GOOD!!!” a comment from the account read.
He will be transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
CMPD told Queen City News that Hunt is currently receiving treatment and will face charges once he is released from the hospital.
