Brooke Hanlon’s family is backing investigators more than two months after the New Jersey psychotherapist was found stabbed to death in her Chester home.
The Haggerty family issued a statement sent to Fox News Digital expressing their support for law enforcement. “We have full and unwavering confidence in the investigative efforts of law enforcement,” they wrote. The family spoke out as the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office continues to investigate the June 6 homicide without naming any suspect or person of interest.
Hanlon, 35, was found dead with “multiple sharp force injuries” as her cause of death, according to the Prosecutor’s Office. Her husband, James “Conor” Hanlon, made the frantic 911 call that afternoon reporting he found his wife unconscious and not breathing on the floor of their home. In the six-minute call, he is heard asking the operator for “CPR instructions” and telling them “there’s a laceration” on his wife’s body.
A newly published obituary for Hanlon says she “is survived by her beloved daughter, Avery, her sister, Paige Haggerty, her parents, Melissa and Joseph Haggerty, and her husband, James ‘Conor’ Hanlon.” The couple had been married nearly five years.
Hanlon’s sister, Paige Haggerty, said in an earlier interview that “Brooke was the sweetest, purest person that I have ever known in my entire life,” and she called Hanlon’s baby “the only saving grace.”
The obituary traces the couple’s path from Boston to Chester. “While in Boston, Brooke met and fell in love with her future husband, Conor Hanlon. Brooke and Conor were married in June 2021 and lived in the Boston area until they moved to Chester, New Jersey in September 2023. They purchased a home in Chester in September 2024 and welcomed their beloved daughter, Avery, in July 2025.”
Before her career as a therapist, Hanlon graduated from Villa Walsh Academy in 2009, earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wake Forest University in 2013, and completed her master’s at Northeastern University in 2015. She worked for LifeStance in Bernardsville, New Jersey, where a spokesperson said in a statement, “We are deeply saddened at the passing of our teammate Brooke Hanlon. Brooke was a beloved member of our Bernardsville team and an exceptional therapist who was highly dedicated to her clients.”
The obituary described Brooke as “a truly beautiful soul.” “Everyone who has ever known her will always remember Brooke’s extraordinary kindness, friendship, loyalty, empathy, compassion, humility, generosity, and passionate desire to help and support family, friends, and all those she counseled,” it stated.
In the viral moment that sparked national attention, Conor Hanlon’s panicked 911 call was released weeks after Brooke’s death, capturing his desperate effort to get help for his wife. He has not been charged with any crime or wrongdoing, and reports said it has repeatedly reached out to him for comment. He has not been seen publicly for weeks, according to a neighbor who revealed to the New York Post that their last contact with him was some time ago.
