Fans of House of the Dragon are outraged after the finale spoilers leaked online ahead of the episode’s official release.
Few things are more frustrating than encountering spoilers for a show you’ve invested significant time in.
Finding spoilers for older series like Breaking Bad or Suits is somewhat understandable since they’ve been available for years, and fans discussing them is to be expected.
However, encountering spoilers before a show’s official release is an entirely different and deeply frustrating scenario.
Unfortunately, this is the reality for the House of the Dragon series finale, scheduled to air on HBO and Max streaming on 4 August.
Just days before the release, on Tuesday (30 July), multiple scenes from the final episode were unexpectedly leaked on TikTok.
Approximately 30 minutes of footage spread across 14 TikTok videos quickly amassed thousands of views.
The account was banned roughly three hours after the scenes were posted, but by that point, the content had already been saved and redistributed across other social media platforms, leaving fans at risk of stumbling upon spoilers with ease.
In response to the situation, HBO issued a statement to UNILAD: “We are aware that clips from the House of the Dragon season finale have surfaced across social media platforms.
“The clips were posted after an unintentional release from an international third-party distributor. HBO is aggressively monitoring and removing clips from the internet, and fans can watch the episode in its entirety this Sunday night on HBO and Max.”
Fans quickly expressed their frustration over the leak, with many urging HBO to enhance their measures for protecting the series.
“A f**king tragedy,” one person wrote, tagging HBO on Twitter. “Your Security Team has always been a disgrace with this franchise. Would you do something about it at some point or what?”
“HBO security worse than king’s landing,” added another.
“That f**king sucks man,” wrote a third. “It’s Tuesday. How are you gonna avoid spoilers until Sunday night?”
Meanwhile, some social media users tried to alert others about the leak to help them avoid spoilers. One person posted: “The season finale of #HouseOfTheDragon is titled, ‘The Queen Who Never Was.’
“Unfortunately, the episode has been leaked online. Please beware on Twitter and going into the tag until it airs on Sunday. MAJOR spoilers are already circulating.”
This unfortunate leak follows a similar incident where the season one finale of House of the Dragon was posted online two days before airing in October 2022.
At that time, HBO stated that the season one leak originated from a distribution partner located in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa.
