The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will start a funeral assistance program next month for families who have pandemic-related funeral expenses.
FEMA explained that it can reimburse costs for funerals that happened between Jan. 20 and Dec. 31, 2020. The project will be funded by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act.
According to reports, FEMA has $2 billion dollars for reimbursements.
FEMA says it will release final guidance to potential applicants soon.
The agency also encourages those who have COVID-19 funeral expenses to gather documentation and keep the files for reimbursement.
