Former Superman Actor Dean Cain Faces Backlash Over Comment About Supergirl Star Milly Alcock

Dean Cain is facing backlash after appearing to encourage a social media user who mocked Milly Alcock’s looks.

Alcock, best known to many viewers for House of the Dragon, is set to play Kara Zor-El in the new Supergirl film, due in cinemas on June 26, 2026 in North America, with international release beginning on June 24, 2026.

The upcoming DC Studios movie is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, with Alcock starring in the dual role of Supergirl/Kara Zor-El. The film is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s acclaimed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic and follows Alcock’s earlier cameo as the character in 2025’s Superman.

With promotional material for the movie circulating widely online, one poster in particular sparked discussion among DC fans. A Twitter user shared the image and highlighted Alcock’s ears, questioning a detail about the heroine’s powers.

“Wait… if Supergirl’s skin is bulletproof, how does she have ear piercings?”

Some replies tried to answer the question from an in-universe perspective, while others treated it as a joke.

“Probably did it when she was on Krypton. No Earth sun there to give her powers.”

Another person made a lighthearted suggestion:

“The ear piercer was made from kryptonite,” joked another.

Cain, who played Clark Kent/Superman on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in the 1990s, later reposted the discussion with a thinking face emoji. The situation escalated when one of his followers compared Alcock to Cha-Ka from Land of the Lost, prompting Cain to reply.

“Dang it… I laughed,” Cain responded to the cruel comparison.

That exchange quickly drew criticism, with many people arguing that Alcock was being unfairly targeted over her appearance, especially as the spotlight on Supergirl ramps up ahead of its late-June release.

“She is like the most conventional attractive woman ever. We can’t win,” someone said on a Reddit thread.

“I still remember when these chuds used to call Sydney Sweeney a mid chick with big t*ts. Then they found out she was maga and suddenly they started acting like she was the most beautiful woman in the world.”

“Why do some men think that if a woman is not physically attractive TO THEM, that they don’t deserve basic human decency?”

“She’s doing A list work and she’s good at it. What does he have going on?” questioned somebody else in a swipe at Cain.

As of June 10, 2026, neither Cain nor Alcock appeared to have publicly expanded on the exchange beyond the social media posts that prompted the backlash.

Representatives for Cain and Alcock have been approached for comment.

The renewed attention on Cain comes after his announcement in August 2025 that he intended to join ICE in an effort he said would help “save America”.

Political strategist Tim Miller later argued that Cain should not be taking part because he was allegedly “untrained”, a claim the actor strongly rejected.

“I’m not untrained. I’ve been a sheriff’s deputy for almost 10 years. I’ve been a sworn sheriff’s deputy and a reserve police officer. So, I don’t know why you’re saying untrained.”

Later that month, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said Cain would be sworn in as an “honorary ICE Officer”, a ceremonial title rather than a role carrying standard law enforcement powers.

A DHS statement later said, via BBC News:

“Superman is encouraging Americans to become real-life superheroes by answering their country’s call to join the brave men and women of ICE to help protect our communities to arrest the worst of the worst.”
