Aaron Glenn says the Jets have their quarterback, and the plan is to drag the fanbase out of the same-old rut.
In Phoenix on March 29, Glenn said Geno Smith, 35, would start for New York after a 3-14 first season that left the coach and Darren Mougey under pressure in Florham Park.
Meanwhile, the first box was obvious: the Jets needed a starter who could steady the room.
“No doubt about it. He’s our guy.”
Additionally, Smith said the move came after Glenn reached out and sold him on a real plan.
“Coach Glenn and I have been on the phone and he’s got a real plan,” Smith said on The Exhibit Show. “It’s kind of like a movie script.”
Later, Smith framed the reunion as something he wanted to earn, not just inherit.
“I really cherish this opportunity,” Smith said. “I really look forward to again just going to practice tomorrow and trying to get better.”
Meanwhile, Glenn keeps describing the offseason as a methodical build instead of a quick fix.
“I love everything about what we’re doing.”
Additionally, the Jets have stocked the room with veterans who are supposed to calm the noise and speed up the learning.
“I think when you bring in guys like that into a football program, I think there’s a level of calm and a level of discipline and not being scared of the unknown,” Fitzpatrick said.
In the viral moment, the Giants loaded up on Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, Abdul Carter and Jaxson Dart, and the mood around that roster changed fast.
“I’m just going to appreciate it because it’s been humbling,” Dart said in Giants Conversations.
Then Carter cut through the celebration and reminded everyone why the season still mattered.
“this is not where we’re supposed to be,” Carter said.
Meanwhile, the Jets are trying to copy the part that fans actually notice: a roster that feels organized, older and less chaotic.
“That was the plan from the very beginning, not just on the defensive side but on the whole team,” Glenn said. “Trying to get an influx of these veteran guys to be a part of what we’re building.”
Additionally, former Jet Leger Douzable said the season has to be built in the meeting room and the locker room.
“You literally have to be around each other because, at one point, you just start thinking like each other” Douzable said on the official Jets podcast.
Finally, the last checkpoint is simple: get to camp without the mood shifting again.
