Texas troop 129007 set up a table to sell cookies outside a supermarket when they noticed something suspicious. They saw a man with a shopping cart that was filled with odd looking items. Things that weren’t even bagged.
The scouts knew something was up.
“He had pushed his cart back into a corner. Just kind of like he was hiding from us,” said Mary Matthew’s, one of the girls’ parents.
When the scouts saw the man trying to move the things into his car, they decided to report him.
Denice Villareal, the store’s service director, confirmed the man was shoplifting and that he had an accomplice with him.
The attempted theft amounted to about $2000 dollars in goods. Among the products being stolen were wine and lots of high end appliances.
“He was stealing a lot of stuff,” said girl scout Hailey Matthews. “We caught a bad guy.”
“We’re just really thankful that someone was here and honest enough to tell somebody that could actually do something about it,” said Villareal of the scouts.
To thank them, the supermarket employees bought up boxes of cookies and hung a picture of the troop in the store.
Everyday heroism can be very powerful. It’s important to remember that we can always be a force for good, no matter how small or young we are.
