Gypsy Rose Blanchard has spoken in a recent interview about the disturbing moments surrounding her mother’s killing, including what her former boyfriend allegedly said before fatally attacking her.
The case of Gypsy Rose has continued to divide public opinion since 2015, when it emerged that she had allowed her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, into the home she shared with her mother, Clauddine ‘Dee Dee’ Blanchard. Godejohn then stabbed Dee Dee 17 times while she was asleep.
Dee Dee has been accused of having Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, a mental health condition that allegedly led her to falsely present Gypsy as seriously ill throughout her childhood. Gypsy was reportedly subjected to unnecessary diagnoses, medical procedures and treatments despite being healthy.
Dee Dee was well known locally, and her death quickly became public knowledge. Social media later became a key part of the investigation, with activity on Facebook helping raise alarm that something violent had happened to her.

Gypsy and Nicholas first connected online, where their relationship developed through messages and video calls.
Over time, the pair made plans to kill Dee Dee, believing it would allow them to leave together and start a life away from her control.
In her memoir, My Time to Stand, Gypsy said that after letting Nicholas into the house, she took three Vicodin and hid in the bathroom. She claimed she covered her ears while trying not to hear what was happening in the bedroom.
In a new interview, Gypsy discussed the moment her mother is believed to have questioned Nicholas, asking: “Who are you?”

Appearing on Paul C. Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast, Gypsy described hearing ‘screaming’ and ‘shock’ during the attack.
“I almost think I heard, ‘Who are you?’ was asked,” she recalled.
She said Nicholas later testified that Dee Dee had asked him who he was, and that his alleged reply was: “I am death.”
Gypsy continued: “So I do know that that was probably what I heard. And I remember her calling out for my name and, like, I wanted to go and help her.
“Like, I felt like I wanted to go and help her, but I was terrified at the same time. Like, my body was paralyzed. I couldn’t move.”
During the interview, Gypsy also spoke about Nicholas’ alleged assault of her, her use of medication, and the events that led to their arrests. She was ultimately sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder, while Nicholas received a life sentence for first-degree murder.
Gypsy was released from prison in December 2023 after serving seven years.
While incarcerated, she married Ryan Anderson, though the couple separated and later divorced soon after she was freed. She subsequently resumed her relationship with former fiancé Ken Urker, and the pair have since welcomed a daughter together.
