Hailey Bieber Reveals ‘Lonely Journey’ With Health Condition After Son Jack Blues’ Birth

Hailey Bieber, 29, has opened up about her postpartum struggle with premenstrual dysphoric disorder, describing it as a “lonely journey” that intensified after she gave birth to her son.

The Rhode skincare founder spoke to Women’s Wear Daily about the condition, a severe form of PMS that triggers extreme mood swings, anxiety, irritability and hopelessness according to the Mayo Clinic. She was diagnosed with PMDD and found the experience isolating in the months following childbirth.

“After I had my son, I struggled with [PMDD] a bit, and there’s just not a lot of conversation or research around it,” Bieber said in the interview. The model, who welcomed Jack Blues with husband Justin Bieber in August 2024, said she has turned to open discussion as a coping mechanism.

“Conversation, for me personally, makes me feel less alone,” she shared. “When we can identify with each other and have conversations relating to each other and [talk] about the things we’re dealing with and struggling with, I do think it makes it feel like less of a lonely journey.”

Bieber told the publication that motherhood deepened her interest in women’s health issues and left her frustrated by the lack of public awareness. “Especially after having my own child. That was just a really intense and special journey that I had,” she explained. “There’s so much that happens when you are pregnant, during childbirth. There’s so many things that happen leading up to having a child.”

She first disclosed her PMDD diagnosis during a May appearance on the “SHE MD Podcast,” where she described symptoms far beyond typical premenstrual discomfort. “For me, it felt like the week before my period was not just ‘PMS,'” she explained. “It felt extreme mentally. Like, ‘Why does it feel like my whole entire life is going to end?'”

“It sucks,” she added. “It is also dangerous, and it should be taken seriously.”

Bieber joins a small but growing group of young celebrities who have publicly shared their PMDD experiences. “Riverdale” alum Lili Reinhart, Swedish singer Zara Larsson and social media personality Dixie D’Amelio have all spoken about living with the disorder.

D’Amelio, 25, addressed how the condition damaged her mental health and relationships during the Season 3 premiere of “The D’Amelio Show” on Hulu in September 2023. “People are going to be like, ‘Oh my God, everybody gets that.’ Like, no,” she said in a confessional segment.

“I didn’t know that you weren’t supposed to want to die every month before you got your period,” she continued. “It’s not supposed to affect every single aspect in your life from sleep to anxiety.” D’Amelio also cited “losing the will to live, irritability and anger” among her symptoms.

Reinhart, 30, spoke about her own diagnosis on the “Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky” podcast in November 2025, explaining that she only recognized her condition after discontinuing antidepressants and birth control.

“So, the week before my period, I feel suicidal,” Reinhart said. “And I didn’t know that I felt that way until I wasn’t on medication.”

Bieber’s disclosure comes as she continues to build her Rhode brand while navigating early motherhood with the “Sorry” singer, 31. The couple, who married in 2018, have kept their son largely out of public view since his arrival last summer.

The model’s latest comments mark her most detailed discussion of PMDD since the podcast revelation earlier this year, expanding on how the disorder specifically complicated her postpartum period when research and support remain limited.
