Harry Styles is facing backlash over concert ticket artwork that fans say evokes the Sept. 11 attacks just days before the 25th anniversary.
The pop star, 31, is midway through a 30-night residency at Madison Square Garden that began Aug. 26 and continues through Oct. 31. The controversial ticket is for Wednesday, Sept. 9, the seventh night of his Together, Together Tour stop at the venue.
Social media users began circulating an image of the ticket after a fan posted it on X. The artwork depicts a yellow car — with Styles apparently inside — soaring over the Empire State Building and leaving a trail across the landmark’s spire. The post was captioned simply, “TONIGHTS TICKET.”
“putting that on the back the week of 9/11 is f–king insane 😠it’s cute but i fear that was not a good idea,” one person wrote in response to the artwork. Another commenter noted, “A little bold given its 9/11 week in NYC.”
The criticism continued to pile up across platforms. “bro that’s wild,” a netizen wrote, while another chimed in, “literally who approved this ðŸ˜?”
The timing has struck many as particularly insensitive. New York City is preparing to mark the quarter-century anniversary of the attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives when two commercial airliners struck the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. The collective attacks remain the deadliest terrorist assault in United States history.
Styles’ representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the ticket design.
The controversy comes as the Grammy winner is actively communicating with his fanbase about the tour’s future. In an email to fans Wednesday, Styles revealed that 2027 dates for the Together, Together Tour would be announced Thursday, Sept. 10.
“When we decided to do the 2026 tour I knew it would be special but what you turned it into was far beyond what I could have imagined,” he began in the email, per Rolling Stone.
“I love playing music, I love being with all of you and being a part of the love and joy you all create together every night,” he continued. “That’s why I wanted you to be the first to know we will be adding 2027 dates.”
While Styles admitted the thought of adding additional dates was “daunting,” he shared that “being an artist is the only life [he’s] ever known” and that he feels “like the luckiest person in the world to still be sharing these moments with [his fans].”
The “Watermelon Sugar” singer said the forthcoming dates are for the “final cities” on the tour. “After that, I don’t know what comes next for me,” he revealed, “but I know that I’m excited to find out.”
The Madison Square Garden run represents Styles’ only United States stop on the Together, Together Tour, which is in support of his fourth studio album’s “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.” He has already performed in Amsterdam, London, São Paulo and Mexico City, and will head to Australia for shows in Melbourne and Sydney after wrapping in New York.
Styles is currently engaged to actress Zoë Kravitz.
The Together, Together Tour marks his third solo outing since his departure from One Direction.
Styles will announce 2027 tour dates on Thursday, Sept. 10.
