Jose Antonio, 55, used to work as an electrician in Spain. But a bout with depression made him lose everything and left Jose homeless for the next 25 years.
In order to have money for food, he spent his days working as an unlicensed parking attendant in Majorca.
Jose worked across a hair salon, and one day the owner, Salva Garcia, decided to give him a major makeover for free.
Before the transformation, Jose told the cameraman: “Leave the doors over the mirror open for the moment so I can see myself for the last time like this.”
“Then close them to see if when they open again, it’s as if something else really opened up in my life, like a symbol.”
After seeing his new and improved look, Jose’s face lit up. He was so happy that he couldn’t hold back the tears.
“Fuck, my God, this is incredible, is this me? I’m so different, no-one’s going to recognise me unless I tell them who I am.”
But Salva didn’t just give him a haircut. To complete the makeover, he dressed Jose up in hipster threads.
Looking like a local celebrity and not a homeless person, Jose walked out of the salon a new man.
The best part is, a company reportedly offered Jose financial help. He is now off the streets thanks to the kindness and generosity of strangers.
