Just over two weeks after Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce tied the knot in New York, another high-profile wedding has followed. The 1975 frontman Matty Healy has now married model and musician Gabbriette Bechtel in Los Angeles, where they celebrated with a guest list packed with famous faces.
Healy and Swift never officially went public as a couple, but reports at the time suggested they had a brief romance between May and June 2023. Around that period, the Chocolate singer was seen attending Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Nashville, and the pair were later photographed holding hands in New York while spending time with Jack Antonoff. The reported relationship came not long after Swift’s six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn ended.
There was also speculation that several tracks on Swift’s 2024 record The Tortured Poets Department drew inspiration from their short-lived connection.
Both have since moved on and appear happy in their respective relationships. While Swift and Kelce’s wedding reportedly drew names such as Gigi Hadid and Ed Sheeran, Healy’s own big day at Madonna’s former Hollywood Hills estate also brought together a notable group of celebrity guests.
One of the most prominent figures in attendance was Healy’s mother, Denise Welch, who was naturally front and centre for the occasion. Welch is well known for her work in British soap dramas, including Coronation Street, and more recently for appearing as a panellist on ITV’s Loose Women. During a July 2024 appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, Welch said about Swift: “Being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost.”
She later made clear that the remark was not meant as criticism of Swift personally.
Charli XCX was another notable attendee. The Boom Clap singer has long been close to Healy and has previously said he is ‘like a brother’ to her. Exactly a year after her own London wedding, which was followed by celebrations in Sicily, she turned up to Healy’s ceremony wearing an elegant black floor-length dress.
George Daniel, Healy’s bandmate in The 1975, was also there to witness the ceremony. Daniel, who plays drums for the band, is married to Charli XCX, making her his obvious plus-one. The celebration also included fellow band members Ross MacDonald and Adam Hann.
Nick Grimshaw was among the guests too. Although the former Radio 1 DJ was not part of Swift and Kelce’s wedding, he was present to support Healy on his own big day. Their friendship is such a close one that Grimshaw has previously joked that people sometimes mistake him for the musician.
Other celebrity guests included Charli’s husband George Daniel, The 1975’s Ross MacDonald and Adam Hann, plus a number of close friends from the couple’s wider music and fashion circle. Healy’s parents, Denise Welch and Tim Healy, were also said to have flown in for the celebrations, which were reportedly styled as a black-tie affair with guests encouraged to wear black.
Bechtel and Healy first confirmed their engagement in 2024, after going public with their relationship the year before. In the months leading up to the wedding, Bechtel’s bachelorette festivities and Healy’s stag do both made headlines, signalling that the couple were planning a lavish celebration rather than a low-key ceremony.
The wedding has now put another chapter on one of pop’s most closely watched relationship circles — with Swift, Healy, Charli XCX and The 1975 all linked by a web of friendships, former romances and overlapping celebrations.
