OMG, Jack Black just called out his bandmate’s wild Trump comment, and it’s a lot to unpack!
So, here’s the tea: On a sunny Saturday, July 13, during a rally in Pennsylvania, a scary moment unfolded when someone shot at former President Donald Trump, even nicking his ear. 😲
Fast forward to a Tenacious D concert in Australia, and band member Kyle Gass decides to joke about this tense situation. Right after Jack surprised him with a birthday cake (talk about awkward timing), Kyle quipped, “Don’t miss Trump next time.” Yikes!
The crowd might have chuckled, but the online world? Not so much. The backlash was swift and fierce.
One person vented on X, “Advocating murder is a crime in every jurisdiction I can think of.” Another added, “What a stupid, insensitive, and hurtful comment.” And someone else called it ‘shameful.’
Caught off guard by the whole debacle, Jack Black took to social media to let everyone know he was as surprised as anyone by the remarks. He announced that Tenacious D would be canceling the rest of their tour and putting future projects on pause.
Jack stated, “I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.
“After much reflection, I no longer feel that it’s appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold.
“I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
Kyle Gass also stepped up to apologize for his controversial joke.
“The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake,” his apology read. “I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone.
“What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret and pain I’ve caused.”
Following these events, Kyle was dropped by his management, and the future of Tenacious D looks uncertain as Jack has decided to hold off on all upcoming creative endeavors.
Fun fact: Tenacious D was born in Los Angeles in 1994, a fusion of Kyle Gass’s and Jack Black’s talents, and they released their first album seven years later. They originally met in the ’80s through The Actors’ Gang theater troupe, and despite a rocky start, they became close friends over time.
Who knew a birthday wish could stir up so much drama? Stay tuned to see what happens next with Tenacious D!
