Jamaican dancehall veteran Powerman is pleading for justice after his 25-year-old son was fatally stabbed on a Brooklyn street.
Michael Davey, 47, who performs under the name Powerman, learned of the killing Saturday when his ex-wife called him in tears. “She said, ‘They killed Chris, him dead, him dead,'” Davey recalled in an interview with The Post.
The father said he “couldn’t stop crying” upon hearing the news. “My ex-wife, his mother, called me crying,” he added.
Christopher Davey was attacked around 5:30 p.m. Friday while running an errand for his mother. The younger Davey, who was born in Jamaica, had been headed to a laundromat to drop off clothes when he was ambushed near his East Flatbush home, his father said.
Police said Christopher was stabbed twice in front of 882 Albany Ave., about three blocks from his residence on Linden Boulevard. EMS rushed him to Kings County Hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
Davey rushed to the scene after learning what happened. “I saw a little black scissors on the ground,” he said. “I saw blood on the sidewalk.” A police spokesman said investigators could not confirm whether the scissors were the murder weapon.
Two men were seen fleeing in a dark sedan, according to police. One suspect was described as wearing a white tank top and blue jeans; no description was available for the second man. “I don’t know them,” Davey said of the killers. “I want to see them.”
The killing marks the second child Davey has lost in just over a year. Last May, his 32-year-old stepson — a trailer mechanic — died while working in upstate New York, though details of that death remain unclear.
Christopher had struggled deeply with his brother’s passing, according to his father. “He was going through a lot of problems,” Davey said. “He had just lost his brother and he went into depression.” The younger man had quit his job and spent his days playing video games, his father added.
Now Davey’s focus has shifted to ensuring his son’s killer faces consequences. “First and foremost, I’m looking for justice for my son,” he said. “There has to be some example set. The streets wouldn’t be safe for no one if they think they can walk up and kill people.”
The elder Davey called the crime “wicked” in an emotional Facebook post on Saturday.
Powerman rose to prominence in the 1990s Jamaican dancehall scene and is best known for his 1991 hit “Stone.”
Despite the crushing loss, Davey said he is trying to remain resilient for his remaining children. “I have to stay strong because I have more kids,” he shared. “I have to stay strong for them and myself.”
Police have not announced any arrests in the case.
