Jennifer Lawrence says one thing never bounced back after becoming a mom

Jennifer Lawrence issued a blunt warning to expectant mothers about permanent postpartum changes during a candid podcast appearance.

The Oscar winner, 36, joined Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast and quickly abandoned Hollywood platitudes when asked what had caught her off guard about motherhood. Lawrence shares son Cy and a second child with husband Cooke Maroney.

“You know, your vagina will bounce back. Your butthole won’t,” Lawrence bluntly warned on the show.

Cooper, who is pregnant, appeared visibly stunned by the unfiltered admission. “I don’t know if I needed to hear that before giving birth. I’m like, ‘Wow, wow, Jen’,” the host responded.

When Cooper pressed for specifics, Lawrence joked about needing warmer surroundings before elaborating. “I’ll tell you. I will tell you once I can get into a heated place. I’ll show you,” she said. She continued: “There’s no going back. That thing is coming out.”

Beyond the physical toll, Lawrence confessed that the emotional uncertainties of parenting had also blindsided her. She pushed back against the myth that maternal instinct arrives fully formed.

“You’re unprepared for all of it, and everybody is like, ‘Your instincts, your instincts’. You have no idea what you’re doing,” she shared. Lawrence added that other women’s promises about recognizing different cries left her feeling inadequate: “I remember women being like, ‘You’ll be able to hear the difference with the cries’. And then I’m like, ‘I can’t hear the difference with the cries. Like, I’m such a bad mom’.”

The podcast appearance marks the latest in a series of refreshingly candid postpartum confessions from the Silver Linings Playbook star. Lawrence has increasingly challenged celebrity beauty standards by speaking openly about cosmetic procedures and bodily realities after two pregnancies.

In a recent cover story for The Cut, she confirmed undergoing a breast lift after her second child. She had previously told The New Yorker that her body recovered differently after the second delivery compared to the first.

“Everything bounced back, pretty much, after the first one,” Lawrence explained in the earlier interview. “Second one, nothing bounced back.”

Addressing the surgery with characteristic humor, Lawrence told The Cut that her daily ambition as a mother remains straightforward. “I want to be a sexy mom. At drop-off, I want to look like a woman who has her s–t together even when I’ve just woken up and don’t have my s–t together,” she said.

Lawrence has also discussed trying preventative “baby Botox,” telling Vogue about the treatment while continuing to dismantle polished narratives around motherhood. Her willingness to detail both cosmetic choices and unglamorous physical truths has distinguished her from peers who maintain more guarded public personas.

The Call Her Daddy episode arrives as Lawrence balances promotional duties with family life, offering fans an unvarnished look at the gap between celebrity image and maternal experience.
