Rosanne Cash has postponed three upcoming concerts after her team announced an unexpected medical emergency.
The 71-year-old singer, the eldest daughter of country legend Johnny Cash, was scheduled to perform Tuesday in Sheridan, Wyoming; Wednesday in Billings, Montana; and Saturday in Bozeman, Montana. Her team shared the news Monday on Instagram without disclosing specifics about her condition.
“Rosanne Cash must postpone her performances due to an unexpected medical emergency. She is recovering under her doctors’ supervision, who have recommended a temporary restriction on travel and performing,” the statement read.
“The restriction is impacting her upcoming Wyoming and Montana shows. Rosanne deeply regrets the cancellation and looks forward to rescheduling appearances.”
Fans flooded the comments section with messages wishing the four-time Grammy winner a speedy recovery. The affected dates mark a sudden interruption to a tour that began in August with fellow musician John Leventhal and was expected to continue through January.
Cash launched her own recording career after cutting her teeth touring with her father in the 1970s. Her 1981 breakthrough album “Seven Year Ache” established her as a major force in country music, and she maintained that prominence through the 1980s and 1990s.
In a 2009 interview, she reflected on the education her father had provided years earlier when he handed her a list of 100 essential country songs he insisted she learn.
“It took me, I think until now, to realize that he was really giving me himself, a part of his heart and soul,” she said at the time.
Johnny Cash, who died in 2003 at age 71, shared Rosanne with his first wife, Vivian Liberto. The former couple, married from 1954 to 1967, also had daughters Kathy, Cindy, and Tara. The “Ring of Fire” singer later married fellow country artist June Carter in 1968, remaining with her until her death in May 2003 just months before his own.
The tour postponement leaves the remainder of Cash’s scheduled dates uncertain as she follows her doctors’ orders to rest.
