Johnny Depp Is King Louis XV in Comeback Film, Jeanne du Barry

Johnny Depp is getting ready to take on the role of a lifetime. On Tuesday, promotional images were released of the actor as King Louis XV in his highly-anticipated film, Jeanne du Barry.

Depp appears alongside co-star and director Maiwenn Le Besco, who will portray the royal’s mistress. The actor is almost unrecognizable with his silver hair and traditional tricorn hats and royal garb.

The release of these images come shortly after Depp’s defamation trial against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

The film, Jeanne du Barry, is based on the final lover of Louis XV before he died, Marie du Barry. The movie was shot over the summer and is set to be released this year, with potential to premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in May.

This will be Depp’s first film in French, as well as his career comeback. The director, Maiwenn Le Besco, is well renowned for her critically acclaimed works such as Polisse and Mon Roi.

Johnny Depp’s return to the big screen is confirmed as he joins the cast of the upcoming movie, Jeanne du Barry. The all-star cast will also feature veteran actor Pierre Richard, Benjamin Lavernhe, Noémie Lvovsky, Melvil Poupaud, Pascal Greggory, and India Hair.

It has been reported that Depp has an up-front starting fee of $20 million for the role. Depp, who hasn’t starred in a movie since 2016, will be making his comeback in the movie about the infamous French noblewoman, after teasing the project back in July.

The accusations of domestic violence against Depp in 2016 led to him being blacklisted by the film industry, and a subsequent loss of roles.
