Traveling with your dog or cat is soooo mainstream now, so Guirec Soudee decided to buck (cluck?) the trend and take his trusty pet hen Monique round the world.
24-year-old Guirec, from France, has been sailing the world with his fowl friend for two years.
Starting at the Canary Islands, best pals Monique and Guirec have gone from the Caribbean all the way to Greenland.
“I knew she was the one straight away,” says Guirec of meeting his feathered friend for the first time.
Guirec thinks this worldly bird is the perfect travel companion because hens are much more independent than other animals.
Oh, and she lays eggs for Guirec to eat when he’s out on the wide, grocery store-less sea.
“At the beginning, I was very worried,” says Guirec, who wasn’t sure if life on the waves would suit a hen more used to a cozy coop.
“There would be huge waves and she might stumble, it would look for a second like she might go overboard.”
“But she would always regain her footing. She’s very brave.”
For really rough conditions, though, Guirec has a safe hutch for Monique to snooze the storms away.
They’re not winging this trip though; the unlikely duo are planning to sail to Alaska after they leave Greenland.
And we’re strangely jealous of a chicken for the first time ever.
Because these guys look like they’re having a clucking good time.
Let’s just hope there’s no fowl play…
You can keep up with Guirec and Monique’s adventures (but with less puns) on Instagram.
