Kai Trump has publicly shut down swirling rumors that she is dating University of Miami football player Jake Weinberg.
A representative for the 19-year-old granddaughter of President Donald Trump confirmed this week that the two students are “just friends” and are not romantically involved. The clarification follows weeks of online speculation that ignited after Trump and Weinberg were both seen at the same restaurant in Palm Beach, Florida.

The pair share more than a zip code. Both are currently enrolled at the University of Miami, where Trump is a freshman on the women’s golf team and Weinberg serves as a kicker for the Hurricanes football squad. Weinberg transferred to Miami after spending two seasons at Florida State University, and like Trump, he grew up in Florida.
Romance rumors have trailed Trump before, but the scrutiny of dating as a member of the First Family comes with unusual complications. During a January 2026 appearance on Logan Paul’s podcast, she opened up about the awkwardness of navigating dates under Secret Service protection.
“To be honest, it’s really awkward when you’re… going on a date with a guy and they’re two tables behind you. It’s a little weird,” she said.
She added that she has worked to adapt to the constant presence of security detail.
“I try my best to not let it bother me and I think I’ve learned, especially the past year now … to [know] yes, they’re following me, but also focus and pretend like they’re not there,” she continued.

The denial arrives at a turbulent moment in Trump’s athletic life. In October, she underwent surgery to repair a wrist injury at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, a setback she announced via Instagram alongside a selfie from her hospital bed showing her in a wrist cast.

“While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love,” Trump wrote in her statement. She explained that she had sustained the injury during her first tournament of the season.
“It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination,” her statement added.

Trump, whose father is Donald Trump Jr., acknowledged that her recovery will “take time” and expressed gratitude for the support of her coaches, family, and teammates.
The Palm Beach restaurant sighting that fueled the Weinberg speculation appears to have been coincidental, with no further evidence of a romantic connection surfacing before the representative stepped in this week.

The freshman has built a significant online following while balancing her dual identity as a college athlete and a prominent member of the First Family. Her willingness to discuss the challenges of that visibility, including the constraints of Secret Service protection on her personal life, has offered rare insight into the day-to-day reality of growing up Trump in the public eye.

Trump is expected to continue her rehabilitation and eventually return to competition with the Hurricanes women’s golf team.
