Five months after Kelly Clarkson confirmed that The Kelly Clarkson Show will wrap up this year so she can focus more on her children, the singer has also shared some of the things she definitely won’t miss.
Clarkson, who first rose to fame after winning the debut season of American Idol in 2002, is currently performing a Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace. The residency is scheduled to continue through the summer of 2026.
On opening night, July 17, the “Since U Been Gone” singer appeared to joke about moving on from her daytime series, while also making it clear she still has affection for it.
“I would get fired by NBC, but I don’t work there anymore,” she said, in video footage obtained by Instagram user @jpasc24.
“We are sad about [it]. It was a fun show.”
Even so, Clarkson admitted there is one part of the job she won’t be nostalgic about: HR meetings.
“They say dumb s**t,” she said of the meetings.
“Like, you can’t comment if someone’s lost weight, and I’m like, b***h! You better write a memo. You better write a memo about it, a song about it.
“I just think that’s so dumb. It makes people feel good when you say, ‘Oh, you look really good.’ And then people are like, ‘No, because that means you thought they did look really bad,'” she continued.
The 44-year-old went on to say that everyone “hated” being in HR sessions with her because, in her words, she is a “nerd” who would “stop class.”
“I would just get into it because I feel like you need to get into it. You gotta protect everyone,” she said, before adding: “Anyway, I don’t have to do it anymore.”
After seven seasons on air, the daytime program is set to conclude this fall. Production on the final season has already wrapped, although the last episodes will continue airing through the fall.
Although Clarkson joked about no longer working there, she was not forced out. When announcing the decision, she described it as a difficult one.
“Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives. This isn’t goodbye. I’ll still be making music, playing shows here and there and you may catch me on The Voice from time to time… you never know where I might show up next,” she said in a statement.
Clarkson is mother to River Rose and Remington “Remy” Alexander, whom she shares with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. She is also stepmother to Savannah and Seth.
Across its run, The Kelly Clarkson Show welcomed a long list of major stars, including Dwayne Johnson and Sandra Bullock.
There are no plans for a replacement host, meaning the show will end with Clarkson when the final episodes air later this fall.
