6th Graders Knit Mittens For Koalas Whose Paws Got Burned In Bushfires

Earlier this year, dozens of koalas were injured in devastating bushfires across Australia. So to protect their burned paws, a class of 6th grade students got knitting.

The International Fund For Animal Welfare (IFAW) asked people to donate mittens for koalas with burned paws.

The mittens protect healing paws and keep ointments and creams on the koalas skin for longer.

So a 6th grade class in Florida downloaded the template online and knitted as many mittens as possible for the koalas.

The mittens came in all kinds of jazzy patterns and styles.

And made for happy, safer koala bears thousands of miles away in Australia.

Amazingly, IFAW received so many mittens they now say they’ve got enough for injured koalas AND to protect bears from predicted bushfires on the way.

Well done, world, you did good.
