Kris Humphries Has a Surprisingly Different Life 15 Years After His 72 Day Marriage to Kim Kardashian

Fifteen years after Kris Humphries’ brief marriage to Kim Kardashian became a major TV and tabloid story, the former NBA player is now focused on a much quieter path in business.

Humphries, 41, married Kardashian in August 2011 during an extravagant Montecito, California ceremony that was turned into a two-part television event watched by more than 10 million people.

The wedding was widely reported to have cost around $10 million and was billed as one of the biggest celebrity ceremonies of the year.

That attention quickly shifted, however, when the relationship ended just 72 days later, turning the split into one of the most heavily discussed celebrity breakups of the era.

These days, Humphries’ life looks nothing like the world he once occupied alongside his ex-wife. Instead, he has moved into the restaurant business and is helping build out Dave’s Hot Chicken locations in Minnesota as part of a family franchise operation.

The family initially signed on to bring 10 locations to the Twin Cities, and by late 2025 that commitment had expanded to 30 across the state, with new stores rolling out in places including Rochester, Minneapolis and several Greater Minnesota cities.

Dave’s Hot Chicken itself has also continued to grow rapidly, and in 2025 the chain was acquired by Roark Capital in a deal valued at $1 billion while its leadership team remained in place.

He has also taken a hands-on role in the fast-food venture rather than staying on the sidelines.

Before shifting into food and business, Humphries spent 13 seasons in the NBA. His professional basketball career began with the Utah Jazz in 2004 and concluded with the Atlanta Hawks in 2017.

After stepping away from the league, he spoke about wanting a lower-profile lifestyle during a rare interview with the US Sun.

He said: “Since I’ve stepped away from the game, I’m trying to stay under the radar and work on a new phase of my life.

“I’ve been developing some business ventures.”

His expansion plans have continued to grow, and by late 2025 he and his family had signed on to open more Minnesota locations as the brand kept spreading across the state.

Humphries also uses Instagram to document the venture, posting updates from the restaurants, trying menu items, and showing followers what customers can expect.

When he revealed his plans to enter the chicken business in 2023, he shared a statement that read: “Super excited to bring Dave’s Hot Chicken to Minnesota with my family.

“This is the best chicken ever! Get ready Minnesota.”

Speaking with Fox 9 at the time, he added: “I’m familiar with the area and went to Hopkins High School; we used to come over to the mall a lot after school.

“So I thought it would be cool to do the first one near where I used to go to school.”

As for his personal life, Humphries appears to be single and has largely stayed silent about his marriage to Kardashian since their separation and final divorce proceedings in 2013.
