Abbey Romeo is speaking publicly for the first time since ending her relationship with Love on the Spectrum co-star David Isaacman, and she appears to be in a positive place.
The Netflix reality star opened up on the Tea Time with Raven and Miranda podcast on Wednesday May 20, joining hosts Raven-Symoné and her wife Miranda Pearman-Maday to share an update on where she and David stand after their April split.
“David and I decided to call each other ‘best friends,’ not boyfriend and girlfriend anymore,” Abbey told the hosts, maintaining an optimistic tone while reflecting on the end of their four-and-a-half-year relationship.
When the conversation turned to dating again, Abbey was clear about how she feels. “Being a single lady, like what Beyoncé says, it feels amazing,” she said. “I’ve grown and changed a lot over the past four and a half years.”

Abbey and David met during the show’s first season in 2021. Their first date took place at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park that July, and they soon became one of the series’ most memorable couples. Over multiple seasons, viewers followed their time together, including a trip to Africa, and they ultimately stayed together longer than any other couple from the show.
Even while discussing the breakup, Abbey emphasized the impact David had on her life.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today,” she said, adding that “he was a good start.” Pearman-Maday also noted that early relationships can help people figure out “What we want in our next relationship, with Raven-Symoné adding that Ariana Grande said it best with her iconic breakup tune, Thank U, Next.

PEOPLE reported the news in early April, sharing a joint statement from the former couple and their families: “Abbey and David spent four and a half years together and truly value the time they shared and each other.
“At this point, they want different things and have decided to go their separate ways, but they remain friends, wishing each other the best.”
The podcast also included a more unexpected moment when Abbey’s mother, Christine, who was in the room during the recording, prompted her daughter to repeat something “funny” she used to say about David.
Abbey responded immediately, saying that at least he “wasn’t cheating and lying” like her brother’s ex.
On the show’s fourth season, Abbey had already suggested that marriage wasn’t something they were rushing into. She told producers that “neither one of us are ready to get married” but that they felt “already married in our hearts.” She also explained why she didn’t want to move too quickly: “I don’t want to be a divorced lady like my mom, so that’s why I don’t want to rush it.”
