Man accumulates impressive savings for early retirement by following a minimalist diet for 21 years

A man has astonished many by saving an extraordinary amount of money to retire early.

While saving can be challenging amidst rising living costs, this Japanese man managed to save hundreds of thousands of dollars through a disciplined approach.

The man, who remains anonymous, aimed to save 100 million yen, roughly $640,000, for retirement. He achieved this by devising a straightforward yet ingenious savings plan.

For over two decades, he cut back on expenses wherever possible and adopted the online moniker, ‘the man who will definitely resign’.

With an annual salary of about $32,000, he meticulously planned his savings, opting to live in a dormitory with a rent of $190 per month, subsisting on the simplest foods, and even skipping meals at times.

According to the South China Morning Post, his dinners often consisted of sour plums, salted vegetables, and rice. Other times, he would have just an energy drink or a cola with biscuits.

Though not the most nutritious, he remained steadfast in his efforts.

Additionally, he avoided using heating or air conditioning. To stay warm, he did squats, and in summer, he wore a wet T-shirt to keep cool.

After nearly 21 years of diligent saving, he announced that he had accumulated $860,000.

He also wrote a book, from which he earns a steady income. Nowadays, his meals are much more varied, including four boiled eggs for breakfast and various hot meals for dinner.

Despite his success, he expressed concerns about his savings losing value.

“If the yen keeps depreciating, I’ll never achieve financial freedom. What have I been working for these 21 years? It’s all meaningless, so tragic,” he said.

His revelation left many stunned, with some surprised that his poor diet had not caused any health issues.

Others suggested that he consider investing his savings instead.
