Across the globe, curiosity is piqued as a baffling monolith has made its appearance in the Nevada desert, specifically standing isolated under the harsh Las Vegas sun. Positioned atop a hill, this metallic structure has become a sensation among the locals due to its striking reflection of sunlight.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMP) didn’t miss a beat, quickly turning to social media to share their bewilderment with the public. They posted, “We see a lot of weird things when people go hiking like not being prepared for the weather, not bringing enough water… but check this out! Over the weekend, Las Vegas Metro Search and Rescue spotted this mysterious monolith near Gass Peak north of the valley. HOW did it get up there??”
The police have encouraged the online world to delve into the mystery, and it wasn’t long before conspiracy theorists were weaving their narratives.
In the comments of the LVMP’s Facebook post, one user expressed, “I’ve been hearing that monoliths have been popping [up] around the world lately. Aliens landing in Vegas resident’s backyard & being covered up by the government. Space Force have been recruiting for space military. It doesn’t surprise me that ET wants to phone home.”
This user was alluding to an event from April last year where a Las Vegas family insisted they had an extraterrestrial encounter, supported by video evidence they captured.
Another Facebook user commented, “Near by the house that last year there were aliens and the police could not see them.”
Some are even speculating about extraterrestrial involvement in this latest development. “Harvard is saying that aliens could already be living amongst us,” another commenter suggested.
This phenomenon follows a trend that started four years ago when up to 23 monoliths were discovered worldwide, often attributed to elaborate pranks.
Amusingly, one person humorously claimed responsibility, noting, “I tried to make sure it matches the surrounding area. Whatever you do, please do not touch it. I don’t want to go back up there and wipe the smudges off. Thanks ahead of time.”
Another referenced the 2009 comedy “Land of the Lost,” starring Will Ferrell and Danny McBride, saying, “I’ve seen this before, it was on the documentary land of the lost – touch it and you can sing.”
While the origin and purpose of the monolith remain mysteries, the police have taken this opportunity to remind everyone about safety while exploring the great outdoors. They advise using the ‘TRAIL’ acronym:
T – ell someone where you intend to hike or climb and when you are expecting to return home
R – esearch the weather forecast for the area before you go
A – id and additional food and water – bring plenty of water, food, and a first aid kit
I – nclement weather gear and minimal overnight provisions
L – ight: Bring a light source, a completely charged phone and consider getting a personal locator beacon (PLB).
