Natalie Portman has spoken publicly about her newborn for the first time since she was spotted with the infant in Paris.
The Oscar-winning actress, 45, opened up to Harper’s Bazaar on Monday about the “magical” baby she shares with partner Tanguy Destable, a 46-year-old DJ who performs as Tepr. Portman described how the arrival has shifted her perspective on parenting her two older children, son Aleph, 15, and daughter Amalia, 9, from her previous marriage to choreographer Benjamin Millepied.
“I am reminded of how recently they were these little fresh creations and how quickly they’ve blossomed into incredible humans with their own amazing personalities and senses of humor and ideas,” she explained in the interview.

Portman said that welcoming another “little human” has filled her days with “wonder and joy.” She offered no additional details about the newborn’s name, sex, or exact birth date.
The “Black Swan” star first revealed her pregnancy in April, also through Harper’s Bazaar, where she characterized the then-impending arrival as both a “privilege” and a “miracle.” At that time, she indicated this would “probably” be her final experience with expanding her family.
“There’s a calm [this time] and knowing myself: who I want to spend time with, what kind of energy I want around me,” she said in the April interview. “That makes the experience so beautiful every day.”

She gave her Instagram followers a preview of her pregnancy in July, posting a photo of her baby bump with the caption: “Counting the days until we meet you 🩷”
The public’s first glimpse of the actual baby came in early September, when photographers captured Destable wearing the infant in a carrier during a walk with Portman in Paris. The actress wore a navy dress and white sneakers for the sunny outing, smiling throughout the stroll.

Portman and Destable were first photographed together in 2025, and the couple has largely maintained a low profile regarding their relationship.

In Monday’s interview, Portman addressed her priorities at this stage of her life, emphasizing emotional connections over professional or social obligations.
“I’m not embarrassed to say it,” she continued. “I do feel like it’s so simple, just being kind and loving and being able to laugh. That’s all that matters. That’s the joy of being this age. If it’s not that, I’m not spending my time there.”

She added that “the most important thing is love.”
Portman and Millepied, who married in 2012 after meeting on the set of “Black Swan,” welcomed Aleph in 2011 and Amalia in 2017. The couple separated in 2023 following more than a decade of marriage and have since co-parented their children.
The “May December” actress has maintained an active career throughout her personal transitions, with her relationship with Destable representing a new chapter following the highly publicized split from Millepied.

Portman’s comments Monday mark her most extensive public reflection on motherhood since the new baby’s arrival, framing the experience through the lens of appreciating how rapidly childhood passes into independent personhood.
