Robert Barrientos has broken his silence one week after his fiancée perished in an NBC Los Angeles helicopter crash.
The grieving partner, a former radio anchor originally from Kankakee, Illinois, posted a lengthy tribute to Eliana Moreno on Instagram late Tuesday. Barrientos, who has two sons named Andrew and Brian, described the depth of his loss while thanking those who have surrounded him with support.
“I know I’ve been truly blessed to have experienced the love I shared with her in this life. Eliana was simply amazing — loving, kind, compassionate, giving, intelligent and extremely silly,” he wrote on the platform.
Barrientos also revealed the future the couple had been building together before the fatal incident. The pair shared dreams of leaving California behind for a quieter life elsewhere, plans that will now never come to pass.
“We had plans to one day retire and move to Tennessee, have some land and care for some animals. Although those dreams are over, her memory will live in my heart and soul forever,” he added in the same Instagram post.
The grieving partner made sure to acknowledge the people who have helped him endure the devastating period. He specifically named his sons and his broader family circle, as well as Moreno’s relatives, as pillars during his darkest days.
“I want to thank my sons Andrew and Brian, my family, Eliana’s father and the rest of her family for showing me so much love during the hardest time of my life,” he continued on Instagram.
The crash that claimed Moreno’s life occurred in Chatsworth, California, when NewsChopper 4 went down in the suburban San Fernando Valley community. The aircraft was an NBC Los Angeles helicopter used for aerial news coverage.
The incident killed three people total. Moreno, who worked as a reporter aboard the helicopter, died alongside the aircraft’s pilot, George Marciniw. A third victim, 29-year-old pedestrian Edy Gutierrez Mejia, was also killed in the crash.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board typically leads probes into fatal aviation incidents, though no preliminary findings had been released as of Barrientos’s Tuesday post.
