Netflix captivates audiences with 97% rated true-crime mini-series many find difficult to finish

Netflix viewers have been captivated by a true-crime mini-series that has earned near-perfect ratings. With a vast library of content, it’s easy for some hidden treasures to be overlooked.

One such hidden gem is a seven-part documentary series that audiences have described as an ‘absolute masterpiece.’ This series is set in the United States and delves into an unsettling unsolved murder that shook Baltimore to its core.

The series is so intense that some viewers have admitted they couldn’t watch it all the way through. For those who did, its chilling effects lingered, haunting them long after the credits ended.

The series investigates the 1969 murder of Sister Cathy Cesnik, a cherished nun and teacher from Baltimore. Her body was discovered two months after she disappeared, but the case went cold until disturbing revelations revived interest decades later.

In the 1990s, a former student, identified only as Jane Doe, came forward with a distressing account of sexual abuse by the school’s chaplain. She also claimed that she was shown Sister Cathy’s body and warned to remain silent. Her testimony, along with those of other victims and witnesses, revealed a grim picture of systemic abuse and silence.

Despite the growing evidence, no one was ever held responsible. Outside of Baltimore, the story received little attention. However, through compelling interviews with survivors, journalists, and determined citizens, the Netflix series probes into the possible cover-up that extends over decades.

The series is titled The Keepers, and its trailer can be watched here:

On Reddit, someone asked for recommendations for ‘a show that’s going to have me gagged and shocked.’ “I need to feel something,” they shared. “I wanna watch something that’s going to have me floored multiple times throughout watching. I’m talking jaw-dropping, unexpected and applause-worthy.”

Suggestions included the new crime drama Dept Q and Netflix’s highly praised series, Dark. However, many users recommended The Keepers, with one commenting, “As a true crime junkie I consider it an absolute masterpiece. It’s brutal but so well-done.”

Another confessed, “I consume a lot of true crime and I couldn’t make it through The Keepers.” A third shared, “Very few documentaries – if any at all except this one – absolutely floor me. This one literally shocked me to my core. This is a documentary that you must watch.”

Someone else admitted, “This one lives rent-free in my head. It shook me to the core,” while another said it was the first documentary to give them a ‘jump scare.’

The series has garnered an impressive 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 31 critic reviews, and over 250 audience members have given it an average rating of 93 percent. One reviewer commented, “Since its release in 2017, The Keepers has been a top 5 documentary in my book. Brilliantly told with excellent production quality.” Another agreed, “One of the most spine-chilling docuseries to have come out in recent times, and an emotional one at that.”

All seven episodes of The Keepers are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
