Never Before Seen Photos Of Nirvana’s Underwater Shoot Are Now Up For Grabs

It’s hard to find a music fan who won’t immediately recognize the iconic photo of a baby swimming after a dollar bill.

After all, Nirvana’s Nevermind defined a generation.

Little did we know that Kirk Weddle, the guy behind that photo, also captured intimate photos of the band underwater.

It wasn’t easy for Weddle to convince the band to do the underwater shoot.

Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl were wiped out from a string of West Coast concerts.

It was a cold day and Kurt Cobain was than enthusiastic about the shoot in the Los Angeles pool.

“I remember Kurt was like, ‘Fuck! I have to get in the pool?’ He was not a water guy at all,” Weddle said.

Cobain eventually agreed to join his band mates (and instruments) for the underwater photo shoot.

At the end of their session, Weddle was able to capture 200 images of the trio submerged underwater.

Until recently, these wonderful photos had been stacked in Weddle’s closet.

Steven Walker, owner of Modern Rocks Gallery, explained the pictures play an important part in the history of rock. “They show a band on the verge of changing the face of music, about to conquer the world…”

“…a band about to release something that was to become one of the most influential albums of our time.”

“But they also show a band on tour… tired… probably homesick and a little bit grumpy, too.”

The images of Nirvana hanging in the water are as beautiful as they are surreal.

24 years after the shoot, limited edition copies are available for sale.

50 re-prints of each image have been released.

No further reprints will be made available once the pictures are sold out.

These photos are a must-have for any Nirvana fan.

The high quality reprints are available to purchase from the official website of Austin Modern Rocks Gallery.
