Obama’s Presidential Memoir, ‘A Promised Land,’ For November Release

Former President Barack Obama is set to release the first volume of his presidential memoirs on November 17, 2020.

Titled “A Promised Land” is the first of two volumes detailing Obama’s presidency. The story begins with his first caucus victory in Iowa, running up to the monumental November 4, 2008 election results announcement, and to his early years as president.

Obama tweeted that “There’s no feeling like finishing a book, and I’m proud of this one. In A Promised Land, I try to provide an honest accounting of my presidency, the forces we grapple with as a nation, and how we can heal our divisions and make democracy work for everybody.”

The book is a candid look at the struggles he faced as the first African American to hold office as POTUS.

Published by Penguin Random House, it is part of a contract that the Obamas signed in 2017. Michele Obama released “Becoming” in 2018, selling over 10 million copies. It was one of the most popular political memoirs.

“A Promised Land” is Obama’s fourth book. He wrote about his life before becoming the President in “Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance” in 1995 and “The Audacity of Hope” in 2006.

He also wrote a children’s book titled “Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters.” Penguin Random House is set to print 3 million copies of “A Promised Land,” in 25 languages.
