On Tuesday, Pele will be laid to rest in a vertical cemetery overlooking his beloved home city and Santos football pitch in an act of honour to his father.
The Memorial Necropole Ecumenica, located half a mile away from the stadium that made him famous, is to be the footballing legend’s final resting place. The decision was made in tribute to his father, Dodinho, who wore the No. 9 shirt as a player.
Pele opted to be buried on the ninth level of the world’s highest vertical cemetery as a tribute to his father.
Pele’s fans think that his last resting location will allow him to look over his favorite football field in perpetuity.
The vertical cemetery, first opened in 1983, includes almost 14,000 vaults.It has a tropical garden, a café, and a classic vehicle museum.
The country will enter three days of national mourning following the funeral.
