Presley Gerber had round-the-clock sobriety support in his final months.
The 27-year-old model, the only son of Cindy Crawford, 60, and Rande Gerber, 64, employed a 24/7 sober coach who was “very present” in his life and frequently traveled with him, according to reports. The coach provided continuous support as Gerber battled substance abuse issues, though it remains unclear whether the coach was present when Gerber died Sunday at Resolutions Living, a $7.7 million luxury rehabilitation home in Santa Monica, California.
Gerber checked into the facility for treatment the same weekend he was pronounced dead, and he was under the influence of a substance when he admitted himself. Reports said that he had been prescribed ketamine by a doctor despite having what was described as a “regular problem” with the drug.
911 audio revealed Gerber went into “cardiac arrest” and was being treated for a suspected “overdose.” An official cause of death has not yet been released.
Last November, Presley addressed his brief hiatus from social media, explaining he “had to step back and take care of my own mental health for a bit.”
“I’m coming back soon — stronger, clearer, more intentional than ever,” he wrote on Instagram at the time.
He also launched a “Mental Health Mondays” movement on the platform, writing that the goal was “to spark real conversations about the stuff most people hide.”
“It’s been incredible seeing how far that message has spread and how many people it’s helped,” he wrote. “I’m proud that something I created has inspired others and started a bigger movement around openness and healing. And with November being Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, the timing couldn’t be better to keep the conversation going.”
Presley’s younger sister Kaia Gerber, 25, was “insanely close” to her brother. A source described their bond as going far beyond typical sibling ties.
“They were way more than brother and sister,” the source said. “She is heartbroken. They were like best friends.”
Crawford and Rande Gerber were seen visiting Presley’s former home in the days following his death, marking their first public appearance since the tragedy. The grieving parents have not made public statements about the loss of their son.
The Gerber family has deep roots in the fashion and entertainment industries. Crawford rose to fame as one of the most recognizable supermodels of the 1980s and 1990s, while Rande Gerber built a successful nightlife and spirits business. Their children both pursued modeling careers, with Kaia becoming one of the most in-demand runway models of her generation and Presley walking for major brands before his struggles intensified.
Presley’s death has drawn attention to the challenges of maintaining sobriety even with extensive support systems in place, and to the risks of ketamine use, which has gained popularity both as a clinical treatment and a recreational drug.
